Aquiry
I got this one from an institute where it seems to have served as an
ieee 488 printer for an sco until the connector broke away. Simply soldering
the connector didn't activate the centronics/parallel printer interface,
so I removed the ieee board, which helped - afterwards the printer printed
ascii (at choice with european special characters replacing the braces,
backslash and dash).
Basic Dip Switch Functions
When the optional second interface card is removed, two rows of dip
switches can be seen (though not easily reached without opening the case)
from the rear: one set of eight switches to the left, one set of four to the
right. With both, off position is left and on is to the right.

Additional Interfaces
As seems to be tradition with HP, this printer has
As mentioned, when I got the printer, an IEEE-488 interface card with
broken connector (or rather broken pcb right behind the connector) was
inserted in the secondary interface slot. As at the time I did not have an
IEEE-488 (GPIB) interface (and still haven't come round to test the cards
I collected during recent years), I removed the cards for later use. The
part name is G479201001-3, and the device features two banks of dip switches,
one with six and one with four switches.
Recently I found a second interface for this printer, namely a serial
one (pn y4902080000) manufactured by epson, this one has 8- and
4-bit dip switch banks.
